The Director of the Institute, Amanda Friedman, will help create a fun supportive atmosphere where you’ll draw, make prints, and do pastel projects each day. Visiting Artists will lead workshops, help you develop your skills and critique your work. Group and individual critiques will help you source your own ideas and inspirations, creating a focus on open communication and personal expression. We’ll relax each day and find inspiration from hill climbing, swimming in the river, being amazed by the ever changing hill country skies, sketching by a water falls, and enjoying camp fires at night. This will be a week you'll never forget!
Details:
Participating artists should bring examples of original work in the form of photos/digital images and/or a sketchbook. The Institute will provide a portfolio upon arrival and appropriate storage and studio space for original works. You should be prepared to finish projects outside of regular class time in "open studio" sessions or once you return home because of the short duration of the Institute. A materials list, to be purchased by each participant, will be provided upon registration. No portfolio is required for application.
Director of The Visual Arts Institute Summer Program: Amanda B. Friedman is a professional artist and has worked for many summers at Echo Hill as Head Women’s Counselor and Director of Fine Arts and is a 3rd generation camper, counselor and administrator. Amanda received a BA in Studio Art from the University of Vermont, and a Painting and Printmaking Certificate from the Glasgow University School of Art. In 2007 she was selected for a Fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center and has exhibited through out the US, most recently at A.I.R. Gallery in New York and during the Bushwick Open Studios in Brooklyn, New York. She’s worked in art education for the Harlem Day Charter School and the Pratt Institute of Art Graduate Library in New York. In addition to her artwork, Amanda is currently the Gallery Manager of the Dumbo Arts Center, an art non-profit gallery space in Brooklyn, NY.
